Maritzburg College, known as Pietermaritzburg High School until 1888, was established in 1863 by the colonial government of Natal. Since the first class in a dusty carpenter’s shop, the school has produced many prominent men. This list of distinguished old boys is fraught with decorated soldiers, sailors and airmen; many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice for their hearths and homes. This blog is dedicated to their memory and hopes to serve the legend by gathering information about their extraordinary, albeit short, lives.
